STOOLS & FOLDING CHAIRS

Stools and folding chairs are the kind of pieces you may not always notice… until you need one. Here you’ll find stools and folding chairs in wood and iron, plus a few with leather seats.

The collection ranges from old stools with patina and a history written into their surfaces to stools made from reclaimed wood and newly produced designs in the same raw style. What they have in common is that they’re easy to move around and ready for action when an extra guest suddenly appears, there’s time for a quick coffee, or a corner needs a little more life.

From high stools for counters and kitchens to low stools that work as a tiny table, plant stand or extra seat. Flexible pieces for cafés, restaurants, offices and homes.

Stools with edge, patina and personality

We’re not talking polished standard solutions here. Our wooden stools are often old, worn in all the right places and full of character. Grain, marks and variations in colour aren’t hidden away. They’re allowed to take centre stage.

At the other end of the scale, you’ll find stools combining iron and leather or iron and reclaimed wood. The look is more industrial and raw, but still has plenty of warmth. Leather seats in particular offer surprisingly good sitting comfort, even when you’re only stopping for a quick pit stop.

In short:

  • Wooden stools: warmth, vintage character, patina and one-of-a-kind vibes
  • Iron stools: raw, industrial and hard-wearing
  • Leather seats: a little extra comfort without becoming too polished

High and low stools for different purposes

There’s a difference between a stool you sit on for two minutes and one you use every day.

Our stools typically range from approx. 40 to 70 cm in height:

  • Low stools (approx. 40–50 cm): Perfect as an extra seat, a tiny table or in the bedroom for clothes, books or “that pile”
  • High stools (approx. 65–70 cm): Counter stools for kitchen islands, counters or cafés where people tend to hang around for a while

Pro tip: Check the height of your table or counter before choosing. It saves you from the classic “well, that’s a bit too low” situation.

Folding chairs when flexibility matters

Folding chairs may not be the flashiest characters in the room, but they are seriously practical. They’re easy to move around and ready to bring out when more guests turn up than expected.

Our folding chairs have the same raw style as the rest of the collection. No plastic circus here.

You’ll find models made entirely from metal as well as a version with a padded leather seat and backrest if you want to turn up the comfort a notch. What they share is a raw, industrial look and, of course, the flexibility of a chair that can simply be folded away.

Use them for:

  • Extra seating in cafés or restaurants
  • Events and functions
  • At home when you suddenly need another chair or three

Kitchen bar stools and counter stools

Kitchen bar stools are a slightly different discipline. Here, everyday use matters. A counter stool typically suits the height of a kitchen counter or island and comes in handy for:

  • Morning coffee and quick meals
  • Homework, work and “I’ll just sit here for a bit”
  • Creating a natural gathering point in the kitchen

It makes sense to choose a model that is comfortable while still keeping the look light. Our kitchen bar stools have a seat height of around 69 cm and work well as counter stools at many kitchen counters and islands. Without a backrest, they can also be pushed underneath the worktop when they’re not in use.

If you prefer back support, take a look at our range of bar stools. Most are taller than our counter stools, but we do have a few models with a seat height of approx. 70–75 cm. Remember to check the measurements of both stool and counter to make sure the height works in your kitchen.

If you want to stop the kitchen from heading off in every stylistic direction, match your bar stools with your dining chairs in terms of materials and style. It makes more of a difference than you might think. Our Copenhagen bar stools, for example, work rather brilliantly with our Living chairs.

Use stools for more than just sitting

A stool is a bit of a multitasker. It can change jobs faster than a DJ in the ’90s.

You can use one as:

  • An extra seat at the table
  • A tiny side table for coffee or books
  • A plant stand that adds a little height
  • A bedside table in the bedroom
  • A quick extra seat in a café or shop

That flexibility is exactly what makes stools useful in both commercial interiors and private homes.

Miniature wooden stools for decoration

Not every stool is made for sitting. Our miniature wooden stools are small decorative pieces that can add height, warmth and a bit of old-world character to a display. Use a mini stool for a plant, a favourite object or as part of a styled arrangement on the floor, a table or a larger piece of furniture. Small in size, but certainly not short on personality.

At Skanderborg Ungdomsskole, the stools aren’t simply standing around in a corner. They’re an active part of the interior.

They’re used as flexible seating in learning environments where furniture needs to be moved around without any fuss. Light, practical and without compromising on the overall look.

It’s a great example of how stools can bring flexibility and movement to a space without creating visual clutter.

Add extra comfort with seat cushions and chair glides

Want to give your stools that final little tweak? Take a look at our range of seat cushions and chair glides. They can improve sitting comfort and help protect the floor without requiring a major overhaul.

Small adjustments can make a big difference in everyday use, especially in cafés and restaurants where furniture gets used… a lot.

FAQ about stools and folding chairs

How do I choose the right stool height?

It depends on where you plan to use it. For a dining table or as an extra seat, a low stool of approx. 40–50 cm is usually a good choice. For a kitchen island or counter, look for a high stool of approx. 65–70 cm.

As a rule of thumb, allow around 25–30 cm between the seat and the worktop or tabletop for comfortable seating.

Are the stools comfortable to sit on?

Yes. Models with leather seats in particular offer good comfort. Wooden and iron stools are simpler but work well for shorter periods. Adding a seat cushion is an easy way to increase both comfort and the amount of time you’ll want to stay seated.

Can I use a stool as a table?

Yes, but keep your expectations in check. Our low stools can work nicely as a very small side table or plant stand. Not for dinner, but just right for a cup of coffee, a book or whatever you need to put down for a moment.

Can Trademark Living stools and folding chairs be used outdoors?

As a general rule, no. They are intended for indoor use, and the materials do not respond well to moisture and changing weather conditions.

How do I clean and maintain my stools and folding chairs?

It depends on the material, but fortunately it’s pretty straightforward:

  • Wood: Wipe with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid using too much water, particularly on old wooden stools with patina.
  • Iron: Wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh cleaning products.
  • Leather: Use a dry cloth for everyday cleaning and treat the leather occasionally with a suitable leather conditioner.

In short: look after them, but let them live a little too. Small signs of use aren’t necessarily flaws. They’re part of the look.
