Fresh renewal at the LauritsenMaul beauty salon
The cognac-coloured lounge chairs are the pieces of furniture that receive the most comments when customers are sitting in the waiting area at the LauritsenMaul beauty salon. But every detail has been carefully considered in this lovely hair salon in Bredgade, Herning. Join us for a visit but be careful… you might catch the interior design bug.
Goodbye to space issues – Hello to Nordic cosiness
Space was becoming a bit tight at LauritsenMaul in Bredgade 6. The success had brought about the need for more hands and, therefore, more customer stations. In fact, there was so little room that Kamilla often found herself thinking, “Oh no, I hope that dad and the kids don’t hang around while we’re cutting... we barely have room for scissors and hairspray!”
Therefore, it didn’t require much thinking time when the larger premises at Bredgade 11 became available. There was enough room for further hairdressers and a larger waiting area.
“We were eager to create some Nordic, cosy environments in the salon, so there would be space for dad and all the lovely kids as well,” Kamilla says with a smile.
Raw look in the decor
“I stumbled upon Trademark Living on Instagram and thought the profile provided a lot of great inspiration for beauty salon decoration. So, when I found out, I could visit the showroom in Stilling, I was so happy that I drove by a couple of days later.”
Kamilla is a big fan of the style with the cognac-coloured furniture, mixed with wood and iron, which gives just the Nordic, cosy, and warm style she loves. “The look can be a bit raw, not too stylish or ‘cute’.”
That’s why Kamilla chose the already mentioned cognac-coloured lounge chairs, lamps, and nesting tables in perforated iron, as well as matching cognac-coloured bar stools for the decoration of the waiting area.
“My choice of the cognac-coloured chairs was primarily to create warmth and cosiness in the waiting area, but I also chose upholstered chairs to ensure that customers have a comfortable place to sit while waiting.”
Old window adds soul
“I simply think Trademark Living has some cool stuff, and I think the Instagram profile is a fantastic source of inspiration. For example, I had custom-made iron bases created for our marble cutting tables, as I wanted them to match the furniture in the waiting area.
Furthermore, I saw how Trademark Living used old doors and windows in the decoration of their showroom, so I asked for permission to use an old window that survived a fire at my uncle’s house in the salon as well. Mixing old with new creates a fantastic atmosphere in the salon.”
Hair salon interior design ideas
Create a cohesive theme in the interior design for your beauty salon by focusing on 3-4 key materials, such as iron, leather, and wood. Repeat the same colour across several furniture pieces, as Kamilla did with the cognac-coloured leather chairs and stools. Instead of classic white walls, a warm colour on the walls adds cosiness and frames the space.
New York-style walls create a space within the room
New York-style walls are brilliant when you have a corner or area you want to section off without compromising the salon’s light. You can create the sense of a room, and light still flows through the windows.

Bouquets add atmosphere
Another idea for decorating your hair salon is to use decorative vases, possibly in a coloured version, with beautiful bouquets to create a pleasant atmosphere. Green plants bring life and dynamism, while the bouquets can provide a fresh pop of colour in an otherwise subdued and cosy colour scheme.

Gentle lighting in the lounge area
Of course, lighting is super important in the cutting areas, as hairdressers need to see what they’re doing, but it’s entirely different in the waiting area, that should ooze of cosiness and relaxation. Consequently, choose lamps that provide a soft and dimmed light in the interior design for your beauty salon.
